The IRS has strict guidelines on e-bike qualifications as medical equipment. For an e-bike to qualify, it all depends on if the ebike has pedals.
Eligible e-Bike Types: To use your HSA or FSA, the e-bike typically needs to be a Class 1 model, meaning the motor kicks in only when you’re actively pedaling and shuts off at 20 mph.
Ineligible eBike Types: e-Bikes featuring a throttle that allows movement without any physical exertion, Class 2 ebikes are harder to medically get approved. Similarly, Class 3 ebikes, which can reach 28 mph. Note that mopeds and e-scooters are entirely excluded from coverage since they lack the pedaling requirement essential for proving medical necessity.
We can get you any eBike Delivered and Assembled in any color from Lectric!
